How we give

Charitable giving deserves the same discipline as a tax plan.

We advise clients to plan year-round rather than scramble in April. We hold our own community giving to that same standard: budgeted in advance, reviewed annually, and measured by what it makes possible rather than what it looks like.

    Every organization we fund serves Dallas and North Texas. We work here, our clients build businesses here, and our giving stays here.

  • Unrestricted where possible

    We trust the people doing the work. Wherever an organization will accept it, our gift is unrestricted so leadership can put it against the most urgent need.

  • Recurring, not reactive

    Annual commitments show up on our budget the same way payroll does. Nonprofits can plan around money they can count on.

  • Time and expertise, too

    Paid volunteer hours for our team, supply drives from the office, and the financial literacy our profession happens to be good at.

North Texas Food Bank

Closing the hunger gap in North Texas by providing access to nutritious food.

Their mission, in their words

NTFB works through a network of partner pantries, mobile distributions and school pantries spanning a 9,200-square-mile, 12-county service area.

Their School Pantry program alone distributes nearly 3 million meals annually, and SNAP assistance, mobile pantry schedules and a pantry locator are published openly on their site for anyone who needs help.

Their current appeal is blunt and specific: kids can’t learn on empty.

When Veronica lost her job, she knew she and her husband were going to need help to get by until she found something else. She visited NTFB partner Joe’s Pantry, which is run by Catholic Charities Dallas, and was able to shop for canned goods, fresh produce, eggs and other staples.

Genesis Women’s Shelter & Support

To provide safety, shelter and support to women and children experiencing domestic violence, and to raise awareness regarding its cause, prevalence and impact.

Their mission, in their words

Since opening its doors in 1985, Genesis has provided safety, shelter and support to thousands of women and children experiencing domestic abuse — and is committed to removing every obstacle a woman may face on her path to healing.

Services include emergency shelter, counseling, group therapy, an on-site school and preschool, pro bono legal support, occupational therapy, advocacy, and childcare during appointments. All services are free, confidential, and available in English and Spanish.

The Genesis 24-Hour Helpline is available any time of day or night by call or text at 214.946.HELP (4357).

Austin Street Center

To transform lives by providing emergency shelter and a path forward to permanent housing for the most vulnerable men and women experiencing homelessness in Dallas.

Their mission, in their words

Every day, thousands of men and women in Dallas find themselves without a home and with nowhere to turn. Austin Street Center has served as one of the city’s largest homeless shelters for more than three decades.

Clients receive not only emergency housing but a plan and a path forward — innovative programs and individualized case plans built to #HelpThemHome through permanent housing solutions.

Humane Society of Dallas County

To promote adoption and provide a safe, healthy and compassionate environment for the cats and dogs of Dallas County for as long as they need it.

Their mission, in their words

The Humane Society of Dallas County — known to Dallas as Dog & Kitty City — is a 501(c)(3) no-kill shelter for abused, neglected and indigent animals.

Animals stay as long as they need. The shelter provides medical care, spay/neuter, and shelter while working to place every animal in a permanent, loving home.

Alongside adoption, they advocate for responsible pet ownership and accessible spay-neuter across the county.

Three things a CPA would tell you about charitable giving

Give appreciated stock, not cash

Donating long-held appreciated securities directly can let you deduct the fair market value while skipping the capital gain you would realize on a sale.

Bunch two years into one

If your giving lands just under the standard deduction, concentrating two years of gifts into a single tax year can put you over the line to itemize.

Substantiate everything

Written acknowledgment is required for gifts of $250 or more. We help clients keep the documentation the IRS actually asks for.
